Southwest Turkey Burgers

This is a typical turkey burger in our house.

For these particular patties I start with a pound of ground turkey for four  quarter pound patties.
(I often double this for our big kiddos but this recipe will get you started)

1 lb ground turkey

1 big handful of cilantro chopped

1 to 2 tsp cumin

1/2 to 1 tsp chili powder

salt and pepper

You can add a mixed spice of some kind.
Here I added the Chipotle Rub from Pampered Chef
I have added taco seasoning before, too.

I add 1 egg per pound of meat to add moisture and hold the patties together.

If you like breadcrumbs then add some but keep in mind
that the more you use the drier the patties will be.
I leave the crumbs out on these.

Mix it all together well and then shape into patties.

I use my trusty tupperware patty making set and then freeze the patties before cooking them.
Freezing them ahead keeps them together on the grill better.

Grill them until they are cooked through and then serve.
We usually serve with baked fries.

Kaiser Rolls make great buns if you are looking for a little twist.
A turkey burger patty with a slice of jack cheddar, a big green Hatch chili roasted and peeled, onion (I prefer red), avocado, lettuce and tomato if you like, too.

Feel free to make a chipotle mayo to go with it.

Let me know if you make these and how they turned out.

  1. yum! I might make these, I'm after gluten free buns though so it'll depend on that but at the moment I've been getting into make berry cheesecakes.
